Located approximately 35 minutes North West of Atlanta GA, in bustling Cobb County, the City of Kennesaw offers old world charm and southern hospitality, coupled to great Metro Atlanta access.

The City of Kennesaw, formerly incorporated in 1887, has a rich history dating back to the 1830's and the decision to construct a rail line between Atlanta and Cartersville. During this time, a workers settlement know as 'Big Shanty' sprung up. In 1861, a training camp for soldiers was established near Big Shanty. On April 12, 1862, a band of Yankee spies 'hijacked' the locomotive, 'The General', giving rise to an epic chase, which later was immortalized in celluloid with the release of Walt Disney's film 'The Great Locomotive Chase' released in 1957.

Kennesaw, and the Kennesaw Mountain area, was also the site of fierce battles between Yankee and Confederate Troops. Today much of this history is preserved in the Southern Museum Of Civil War and Locomotive History   located in downtown Kennesaw.

On May 1, 1982, Kennesaw again garnered national attention when the city unanimously passed a law requiring 'every head of household to maintain a firearm together with ammunitions'. Although not enforced, it is still argued today that this law resulted in Kennesaw having the lowest crime rate in Cobb County.

Although still steeped in history and tradition, today Kennesaw is a vibrant and rapidly growing city and area, boasting malls, retail Areas and the restaurant laden Barrett Parkway Area. Kennesaw residents enjoy over 18 recreational sites within city limits, with a very active Baseball League, and a variety of other sporting and recreational activities falling under the Kennesaw Parks and Recreation Department . Close by is the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, Kennesaw State University, Lake Acworth, Lake Allatoona, and Red Top Mountain State Park.
