The City Of Acworth, Georgia

Acworth GA

Located approximately 45 minutes North West of Atlanta, at the apex of Cobb, Cherokee, Paulding and Bartow Counties, lies the character-filled town of Acworth, GA. Incorporated as a railway town in 1860, Acworth was torched to the ground in 1864 by Sherman's troops. By 1879 however, rebuilding efforts were in full swing, and two flour mills, a tannery and cotton gin formed the heart of the new Acworth's commercial district.

While Acworth continues to grow, it retains the ambiance of small town life, complete with late 1800's and early 1900's downtown architecture. Today Acworth is designated as a Georgia Main Street City and is part of the Main Street America program. Among its many regular city activities is the Classic Car Cruise held every 5th Saturday, when motor vehicles from yesteryear cruise down Main Street and the Old Dixie Highway (now Old 41). Downtown Acworth also boasts a smorgasbord of restaurants, art and crafts shops, galleries, and even a theatrical arts center with six professional theatre companies and 'The Theatre On The Main'.

Acworth is an outdoor lovers paradise and is surrounded by two beautiful lakes - Lake Acworth and Lake Allatoona with 12,000 acres of water and 23,000 acres of forest. It is little wonder therefore that Acworth has come to be known as 'The Lake City'. These areas offer beaches for swimming, fishing, boating and camping. There are also twelve parks that surround Acworth for picnicking, hiking and walking, as well as the 42 acre Acworth Sports Complex. This complex currently contains 6 baseball/softball fields, two football fields, practice area, batting cages, and parking. The complex is home to the Acworth Baseball Association and the Acworth Football and Cheerleading Association.

For Golfers Acworth also has a special treat. Nestled along the banks of Lake Acworth is Cobblestone Golf Course which was recently rated the number one public course in Georgia by Golf Digest. Acworth also boasts two Semi-Private Courses - Brookstone Country Club and Bentwater Country Club.
